Putin thanks Kim

Russian President Vladimir Putin has thanked North Korean leader Kim Jong Un for his support and cooperation in the Ukraine war, the Kremlin and North Korea's state news agency KCNA both confirmed.
The KCNA report said, “Russian President Vladimir Putin thanked North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un for his support and cooperation in the Ukraine war in a telephone call on Tuesday. The Supreme Leader welcomed the Russian President and said that North Korea has always been faithful to the spirit of Russia-North Korea friendship and that if the need arises again in the future, North Korea will stand by Russia with all its might. Warm and friendly talks were held between Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin.

KCNA noted that the two leaders also discussed various issues related to bilateral interests of the two countries. Both countries have actively sided with Russia since the war with Ukraine began in 2022, providing military and weapons support to Syria and North Korea. While Syria withdrew after the Hamas-Israeli war in Gaza and the subsequent fall of President Bashar al-Assad last year, North Korea remains on Russia's side.

North Korea has supported Russia with troops and ammunition in the war in Ukraine, in which more than a thousand of its soldiers have been killed. Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to meet with US President Donald Trump this week to try to end the Russia-Ukraine war. The meeting is set to take place in the US state of Alaska. Putin called Kim to thank him before the meeting.
